3 Canon EOS RP Accessories I Recommend

The quick answer
My three most useful Canon EOS RP accessories are an EG-E1 extension grip, a larger SD card, and spare LP-E17 batteries. They address the things I notice when using the RP: its short grip, single card slot, and limited battery life.

1. Canon EG-E1 extension grip
The EOS RP is just a little too short for my hand. Even though I have small hands, my pinky hangs off the bottom and the corner becomes uncomfortable to hold. The EG-E1 extends the grip enough to give that finger a place to rest, making the camera much more comfortable for me over longer periods.
This is especially useful if you have larger hands, but I like it even with my smaller ones. The grip has an access panel for the battery and SD card, so you can change them without removing it. It's an extension for handling, not an extra battery.
2. A larger SD card
I'm used to the two card slots in my Sony a7 III, while the EOS RP has one. For a long day of shooting, I prefer a higher-capacity card so I don't have to switch cards as often or sort through as many afterward.
In the video I used a SanDisk 128GB card and mentioned 256GB as another option. How much either card holds depends on what and how much you shoot, so choose a capacity that fits your work rather than assuming one card will always last the whole day.
The RP accepts SD, SDHC and SDXC cards and supports UHS-I and UHS-II. Check the speed requirements for your recording mode as well as the capacity. Canon does not recommend using UHS-II microSD cards in an SD adapter.
3. Spare Canon LP-E17 batteries
Battery life is one of the RP's weaker points in my experience. If I'm going to be out shooting all day, I want one or two spare batteries available rather than finding myself without power when I need the camera.
The EOS RP uses the LP-E17. I prefer genuine Canon batteries for reliability. Third-party batteries can cost less, but my preference is to carry genuine ones; the video isn't a controlled comparison of every alternative.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change the battery with the EG-E1 attached?
Yes. Its access panel lets you reach both the battery and SD card without taking the extension grip off.
Does the EOS RP have two SD card slots?
No. It has one, which is why a larger card can be convenient when you want to change cards less often.
My verdict
I'd start with the EG-E1 if the RP feels too short in your hand, then choose a card and spare batteries for the length and type of shoots you do. For more camera videos, visit FoxTailWhipz on YouTube.
