The quick verdict
I gave cheap keychain cameras A tier for the fun they offer at around $20 to $25 in my test. The pictures were rough and the construction was basic, but the size made them easy to bring everywhere.
That rating depends on the price. I would not pay more than about $40 for a camera in this category, and I would use my phone when I wanted cleaner photos.

Why carry a camera this small?
It can stay on a keychain or slip into a pocket without needing a camera bag. That is most of the appeal for me: having a small toy camera available when I feel like taking a picture.
The rough results can be enjoyable when I am not trying to get a technically clean image. Watch the examples before buying, because enjoying the little object does not guarantee you will like its photos.
Compared with the KODAK Charmera
The Charmera has a recognizable design and more polished presentation. The generic cameras come in different shapes, and their controls and included accessories can vary.
I would compare the full package and the actual samples. Near the roughly $30 to $35 Charmera price discussed in my test, its design might be worth a little extra. At a large resale premium, I would choose a cheaper option.
Keep the total cost low
My A tier rating applies around the $20 to $25 test price. Paying much more makes the weak image quality and cheap construction harder to accept.
- Check the exact body style, charging connection, and included memory card.
- Look for real sample photos and clips rather than relying on a resolution label.
- Check the return terms in case the card slot, battery, or controls do not work properly.
These are generic products, so I would not assume every similar looking listing is the same camera.
Where to compare
Compare the inexpensive keychain camera listing or check the KODAK Charmera price. Keep the purchase small enough that the novelty is worth it to you.
My verdict
A cheap keychain camera can be worth carrying for its size and rough photos. I enjoyed the category at a low price. I would skip an expensive listing or any version sold as a serious upgrade to a phone.
