The quick verdict

The Escura InstantSnap has an unusual thin body and a large rectangular opening for framing. I liked the idea more than the photos: the 1.3MP files from my camera looked extremely rough, and I barely used it after testing.

I rated it C tier because the shape interested me. I would not recommend it for reliable image quality or as a practical alternative to a phone.

An unusual way to frame a photo

You hold the large opening away from your face and use it to estimate the composition. It feels different from using a normal compact camera, but the framing is approximate.

The thin shape was the reason this camera caught my attention. It is something I would consider as a novelty object, rather than because it makes taking a dependable photo easier.

The 1.3MP results disappointed me

Even by toy camera standards, I found the photos very poor. I would not use it when detail or getting an important shot mattered.

The samples in the full video are the best reason to consider or reject it. If you do not like those imperfections, the unusual body alone will not improve the files.

Digital photos, with a separate card

This review covers the original screen free 1.3MP InstantSnap. Despite its name, it saves digital files and does not produce instant prints like an Instax camera.

Escura lists a microSD card from 4GB to 32GB, Class 4 to 10, sold separately. Check the exact bundle before buying a card, and include it in the cost if one is not supplied. The original InstantSnap product information identifies this model and its storage requirements.

Who should consider it?

I would only consider it for the design or for a collection of unusual cameras. I would watch the sample photos before spending anything on it.

Check the original Escura InstantSnap listing. Confirm the model and included card, since the review here is of the original 1.3MP version.

For inexpensive toy camera fun, compare a cheaper keychain camera. It is still worth checking sample images before choosing one.

My verdict

The InstantSnap’s shape was memorable, but I did not enjoy its photos enough to keep using it. C tier is generous and comes from the design. I would pass if I wanted a useful everyday camera.
